Submersible Pump Forging
A submersible pump sits at the bottom of a borewell, sometimes hundreds of feet down. Retrieving one for repair is a major operation, so components are specified for the retrieval interval, not the failure point.
Forged submersible pump components — shafts, couplings and impeller hubs — are specified in stainless steel because retrieving a pump from a deep borewell costs far more than any component saving. Grade follows regional groundwater chemistry, from SS 304 to SS 316 in saline zones.
