A Narrower Window

Austenitic stainless forges at roughly 1,150–1,250°C with a finish temperature above 950°C. Finish too cold and it cracks; soak too long and grain grows coarse. Induction heating with pyrometer verification is what makes it repeatable.

Contamination Is the Practical Risk

Stainless handled on tooling shared with carbon steel picks up embedded iron that rusts weeks later, looking exactly like a grade failure. Segregated tooling, handling and storage prevent it — which is why stainless forging is a plant discipline, not just a process setting.
