Where Forging Clearly Wins
Fatigue-loaded parts, safety-critical components, pressure boundaries and anything where porosity is unacceptable. Forged grain flow follows the part contour; cast grain is random and interrupted by shrinkage and gas porosity.

Where Casting Clearly Wins
Internal passages, thin complex walls, intricate external features and large one-piece housings. A pump volute or an engine block cannot sensibly be forged, and pretending otherwise wastes everyone's time.
The Cost Question
Casting tooling is cheaper for complex shapes; forging dies cost more but last longer and produce parts needing less machining. Below a few hundred pieces casting usually wins; at volume with a machining-heavy part, forging often wins on total cost, not just piece price.

Is forging always stronger than casting?

In fatigue and impact, effectively yes, because of grain flow and absence of porosity. In pure static compression the difference is much smaller.
Which is cheaper?

It depends on geometry and volume. Complex shapes at low volume favour casting; simpler high-volume parts with machining content favour forging.
Can a cast part be replaced by a forged one?

Often yes, with design changes for draft, radii and parting line. Send the drawing and we will assess forgeability honestly.
Do you advise against forging sometimes?

Yes. If a part genuinely needs internal passages or intricate thin walls, casting is the right answer and we say so.
