Ring Rolling
Ring rolling starts with a pierced, upset doughnut of hot steel that is squeezed between a driven roll and an idler mandrel. The wall thins, the diameter grows, and the grain is drawn into a continuous circumferential loop — exactly the orientation a rotating ring needs.

Why Seamless Beats Welded and Cut Rings
A rolled ring has no weld, no heat-affected zone and no interrupted grain. Under rotating bending and hoop stress that continuity is what prevents crack initiation — the reason bearing races, slew rings and gear blanks are specified as seamless rolled forgings.
- No weld seam or HAZ
- Continuous circumferential grain
- Uniform wall thickness
- Higher hoop strength
Sizes and Profiles
We produce rings from 100 mm to 1,200 mm outside diameter with heights to 300 mm and walls from 20 mm upward. Rectangular sections are standard; contoured profiles that reduce machining stock on races and flanges are produced with profiled mandrels.
Downstream Operations
Rings are normalised or quenched and tempered as the grade demands, then turned on our CNC lathes to concentricity and flatness specifications. Ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection can be applied before dispatch when the application is safety-critical.
People also ask
What is the maximum ring diameter you can roll?
1,200 mm outside diameter with heights to 300 mm and wall thickness from 20 mm upward.
Why are rolled rings stronger than cut ones?
Rolling draws grain into a continuous circumferential loop aligned with hoop stress, whereas a ring cut from plate has grain running in one direction across the whole ring.

Questions Answered
What is a seamless rolled ring forging?
+
A ring formed by rolling a pierced hot billet outward on a mandrel, with no weld or joint anywhere in its circumference and grain flow running continuously around the ring.
What is the largest ring you can roll?
+
Up to 1,200 mm outside diameter and 300 mm height in our current setup.
Are rolled rings supplied machined?
+
Yes — proof machined or fully finished to drawing on our CNC turning centres, with concentricity and flatness verified.
Which industries buy rolled rings from you?
+
Bearing manufacturers, gearbox builders, wind and crane slew ring makers, valve and flange producers, and general engineering.
