Forged Discs & Blanks

A forged disc is the starting point for gears, flanges, hubs, valve discs and countless machined parts. Upsetting a billet into a disc produces radial grain flow that a plate-cut circle can never provide.

Radial Grain Versus Cut Plate

Cut a disc from plate and the grain runs in one direction across it, giving anisotropic properties — strong one way, weaker across. Upset forging drives grain radially outward from the centre, so properties are uniform in every radial direction.

  • Radial grain flow from centre
  • Isotropic radial properties
  • No plate rolling anisotropy
  • Better material utilisation

Sizes and Sections

100 mm to 800 mm diameter with thickness from 20 mm to 250 mm, supplied as plain discs, stepped discs or pre-formed hub-and-web shapes that reduce downstream machining.

03

Supply Condition

As-forged, normalised, annealed or quenched and tempered, and proof machined where the customer wants a clean surface for inspection before their own machining starts.

FAQ

Questions Answered

Why buy a forged disc instead of cutting from plate?

+

Plate has directional properties from rolling; an upset forged disc has radial grain flow and uniform properties, plus better material yield on thick sections.

What is the largest disc you can forge?

+

Up to 800 mm diameter and 250 mm thickness.

Do you supply proof machined discs?

+

Yes, lightly machined all over so surface condition can be inspected before final machining.

Which grades are available?

+

Carbon, alloy and stainless grades including EN8, EN19, EN24, SS 304 and SS 316.
