A pinion is a shaft and a gear in one part, which means it must resist torsional fatigue along its length and contact fatigue at its teeth. Integrally forging the head and shank avoids the joint that a two-piece design would have to trust.

One-Piece Head and Shank
The gear head is upset from the shank in a controlled sequence, so grain flows from the shank into the tooth region without interruption. On differential pinions carrying full drive torque through a small tooth count, that continuity is decisive.
Case Hardening Response
20MnCr5, 16MnCr5 and EN353 blanks are forged with a controlled finish temperature so case depth after carburising stays consistent piece to piece — the property gear shops care about most when they receive blanks from a new supplier.

Do you supply pinion blanks or finished pinions?

Blanks, proof machined to your allowance. Tooth cutting is generally done by the gear manufacturer.
Why forge the head integrally?

A welded or assembled head introduces a joint at the highest-torque location. Integral upsetting keeps grain continuous from shank to teeth.
What supply hardness do you provide?

Normalised or annealed to the band your machining process prefers, typically 180–220 BHN.
Can you meet a specific case depth after carburising?

We control forging and normalising so hardenability is uniform; the carburising cycle itself is set by your heat treatment specification.
