Billet weight is the number that determines material cost, and material is 40–60% of a forging's price — which makes billet cutting accuracy a commercial matter, not just a technical one.
A billet is semi-finished steel stock, typically square or round in section, produced by rolling or continuous casting. It is the starting material for most forgings, cut to a calculated weight before heating.

Billet, Bloom and Ingot
An ingot is cast directly from liquid steel. A bloom is a large semi-finished section rolled from an ingot. A billet is smaller, typically under 150 mm square, rolled from a bloom. Forgings start from billets, or from blooms for large open die work.
Why Cut Weight Accuracy Matters
Too light and the die cavity under-fills; too heavy and excess metal becomes flash, wasting material on every piece. We control billet cut length to ±1 mm, which keeps forged weight consistent within ±2%.
