Die sinking capability in-house is why our sample lead times run three to five weeks rather than eight, and why a die correction takes days.
Die sinking is the machining of the impression into a forging die block, traditionally by copy milling and now by CNC machining and EDM. Re-sinking is recutting a worn impression to restore its dimensions.

Cutting the Impression
The die block, usually H11 or H13 hot work tool steel, is machined to the cavity geometry including shrinkage allowance, then heat treated to working hardness. Detail is finished by EDM where cutters cannot reach.
Re-Sinking Extends Life
As the cavity wears, the impression is recut slightly deeper to restore dimensions and detail. A die can typically be re-sunk several times before the block is exhausted, which spreads tooling cost across far more parts.
