Blocker Impression

Skipping the blocker on a complex part is the single most common cause of laps and under-fill. The finisher cannot both distribute metal and form final detail in one blow.

A blocker impression is an intermediate die cavity that pre-forms the workpiece into roughly the final shape before the finisher impression completes it. It distributes metal to where the finisher will need it.

What It Prevents

Without pre-distribution, metal folds over itself as the finisher closes, creating laps that no inspection can repair. It also leaves thin sections starved of material, producing under-fill at exactly the features that matter.

When a Blocker Is Required

Any part with ribs, forked ends, significant section changes or deep cavities. Simple discs, plain shafts and shallow parts often fill acceptably from a single finisher impression.
